At the end of 2019, some information regarding a seemingly mysterious yet familiar outbreak appeared in the world media. At the onset, it failed to capture the sanity of homo sapiens, but gradually things became transparent and the mysterious outbreak happened to be the disease called COVID-19. There’s a galore scientific study available on the internet regarding the virus. People from all walks of life have suddenly become the self- appointed preachers offering their respective opinions in the form of advice, precautionary measures, condolences to the bereaved, bravery messages, and all sorts of things possible to bring awareness. Doctors, who are the only warriors fighting on the frontline on the battlefield from across the globe are displaying their relentless and indefatigable endeavor to thrash this nanoparticle better known as the Coronavirus. With all the economic activities down the drain, countries facing the wrath of lockdown, and a legitimate fear of mass unemployment, nature has shown its own way of balancing the equations. In my view, this painstaking event of the 21st century conveys an altogether different message for humanity.

An introspection studying all deeds that have been carried out by humanity in the last 500 years will reveal the level of cruelty that has been loosed upon the world by humans. Our rampant actions to achieve what we want irrespective of our grave consequences that would be visible only after a long time have transformed nature into an inflicted prisoner waiting to take revenge. Don’t get me wrong for trying to relate this pandemic to the wrath of nature. COVID-19 transmitted to humans only after a unilateral and uninvited tryst with nature, which otherwise happened to be a zoonotic disease. Humans made a random choice of including adventurous cuisines in their diet.
This is only one example of our unnecessary intervention in the processes of nature. If we consciously attempt to look at our grave actions, thorough studies will show us the disasters waiting to happen. Our greed, desires, cravings, and all the comforts that we cherish today have worsened the scenario, no wonder humanity will be in hot water, sooner or later. Our insatiable thirst to acquire whatever we want despite the fact that it won’t be possible to spend all of that has obliterated the fundamentals of nature. Irrepressible economic activities, uncontrollable burning of fossil fuels, and a feeling of superiority among humans have posed a severe risk for the survival of other species of which many of them have become extinct.

Despite all the evidence at our disposal, we conceitedly seem to be reluctant to acknowledge the destabilizing condition of the planet, let alone improve it. Undoubtedly, the repercussions of what we did in the wake of the Industrial revolution have started to materialize in the form of climate change, floods, uneven cyclones, reduction of land, and many more. Our blissful ignorance is entirely consistent with our corrupt intellect that has become blind to mere materialistic entities. Going by this way, the only thing awaiting us is an apocalypse.
Nevertheless, there’s a ray of hope. The combination of intelligence, sanity, compassion, and responsibility can do wonders for us and the world. In these testing times, we shall introspect, contemplate, and look forward to the best we can offer to the planet.
