The Indian government came up with a revolutionary decision in July 2020. Feels almost like the only good thing that has happened so far in this cursed year. Some of the major changes made are:
Introduction to Coding class 6th onwards.
Vocational Training in schools
Scrapping of rigid streams. Now students can study any subject they want. Yes, you can choose Biology with Political Science
Permission to top 100 universities of the world to set up campuses in Indian Education System
Single regulating body for higher education system
Replacing 10+2 curriculum with 5+3+3+4.
Less focus on rote learning
Multiple exit options in degrees with the facility of credit transfer
Mother tongue as medium of instruction in primary classes
Indian Education system has been criticized and classified as outdated since many years. These sweeping reforms, if implemented within time, will definitely raise the education standards nationwide. However there seem to be some shortcomings. If the children are taught in regional languages, they will face major difficulties while transferring to a new school located i regional language. This might also undermine the importance of English language which is an internationally accepted language and in almost indispensable in industrial relations. Over all, these changes definitely give hopes for a brighter future.
