In the present world the notable issue that we suffer form is cord system of electrical appliances. We find our-self attached with the plug –in points. At many a point of time we feel that the life would be better if we cut the cords and make everything hands free. This motive developed into the invention of wireless power transmission technology. The transmission of power without the need for a physical connection(wire). This method was first developed by Nikola Tesla in 1907.

The WPT technology is based on the fundamental properties of electromagnetic spectrum that when higher voltage is coupled with high resonant frequency since they can travel a long distance. They are transmitted as electromagnetic field, it can be accessed only by certain receivers that are set in the particular resonant frequency. Microwave Vacuum Tubes are used to transmit microwaves at particular frequencies through space. The magnetron being the device used the most often because of its higher functionality and efficiency.
The input DC voltage is converted into microwaves and transmitted into the space and after being received as microwaves they are again to be converted back into DC . The magnetron device generates microwaves by passing electrons through a magnetic field. These microwaves are then transmitted via antenna into space and are to be received by the rectenna (antenna connected with rectifying circuit) at the receiving end. We have used printed-dipole antenna for this method. The printed dipole antenna has a highest range of broadband operating frequency of nearly 2.5GHz which has the higher efficiency of 90.5%-92.5%. For compactness, the printed dipole is angled at 45°. Microwave Power Transmission has several unbelievable applications, both for existing technologies and for theoretical systems still being researched.

WPT and MPT are extremely useful technologies that have numerous applications and benefits. The electronic-portable devices can be charged and used without cord system. Another major benefit is the saving of natural resources that are used for the manufacture of wires. We can prevent from electrical hazards and flame risks. As a scope for WPT in India, this can be implemented to prevent power wastage and illegal usage of power. The complex power distribution system in metro-politian cities can be greatly monitored in terms of electrical hazards. Using resonant source installed walls and false ceilings can greatly reduce the capital involved in the wiring requirements indeed. The magnetic fields are non-radiating in nature and are safer to greater extent. It even doesn’t require any huge investment as involved in solar installments.

Once commercialized they can be used viably in apartments and multi-storey buildings . One another notable application of WPT would be the running of automobiles burning no fossils anymore. They can recharge their batteries as the run on the charging lane or even when standing-by on the signals. The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has an initiative to drive solar energy from geo-stationary satellites form the outer space. This method may be viable to some extent and they are about to bring it live within 2023 as a celebration of 175th birthday of Tesla. The solar panels derive energy from the Sun and convert it as microwaves and send them to the Earth, where the receiver converts it into DC. This method can be the largest solar power generation across the globe that can promote the usage of renewable resources.

Now a day, we are using technology wirelessly like our phone, which is a very big example of it . The potential implementation of wireless power transfer technology will make our life easier.
